And the superhero

I was babysitting (again). And the precious girl I was looking after was wearing a Wonder Woman dress with an attached cape. I told her that she was a superhero, and she repeated that phrase after me, and together, we were superheroes. We flew through the hallway, and then we began playing her new favorite game: jumping in her bed.

She would get into her bed and jump while I stood outside her crib and jumped along with her and hoped she didn’t fall and hit her head. Then, she would collapse on the bed, close her eyes and say: “the superhero goes night-night”. I would place the blanket over her, and go to my bed (the hallway), and wait. Then she would say: “Rachel, it’s jumping time!” And my little superhero would be awake and ready to jump again.

As we were doing this, I suddenly heard this (this is what I remember):

Why is the superhero sleeping? When they have all power over the enemy?

Friend, you were created to be a superhero in this world - more than a conqueror. You were never meant to be defeated. And through Jesus, we are superheroes. We are more than conquerors. So today, maybe you feel like you’ve been sleeping. It’s time to wake up. And not just wake up but rise. And live.

This precious girl could open her eyes and be awake, but if she was still lying down, she couldn’t do much.

So she had to rise.

But that wasn’t enough. It wasn’t enough for her to simply stand in her crib. She had to jump. She had to live.

So, the superhero woke up, rose, and lived.

Friend, my dear friend, I’m here to tell you that right now is the time to wake up, rise, and live again. It is time. I don’t know who this is for, but if you feel like you’ve been stuck in a sleeping state, then I pray that our ultimate Hero, Jesus Himself, grabs your hand and lifts you up - because that’s what He is always doing. He is always lifting.

And I want you to know that our Heavenly Father is not mad at you for sleeping, for feeling defeated, for feeling hurt, but He loves you far too much to leave you there. I want you to know that Jesus knows whatever pain has caused you to sleep, and He cares too much to leave you sleeping. Friend, I believe that Jesus wants to renew life into you - with new dreams and hopes and passions and desires and I pray that this very breath of God that got you breathing in the beginning blows right on you and renews your life again.

Remember, you are deeply loved.
