It's been a year.
Literally. It has been a year since I lasted posted anything. And my last blog post was about God finding and reviving lost dreams.
That was a year ago.
Blogging has felt a bit like a lost dream. It's been a year since I last put 'pen to paper', and sat down to determine what it is that I have to say (which is my clever way of referring to my first poetry book titled I Have Something to Say).
But it's been a year. And I have a lot to say.
Which, before I share with you what I have to say, a word on the false belief that we never have anything to say.
Perhaps you've never run into this problem, but have any of you ever wanted to share your voice in a meeting? At a table with friends? At a party? But right as you open your mouth, you get this nagging thought:
I don't have anything to say.
Or:
That's stupid. Don't say that.
Or:
I have nothing to contribute. Stay quiet.
Have you ever had that sensation before? Of wanting to say something and then getting that crippling feeling that maybe, just maybe you don't have something to say?
Well, friends, I have great news for you: that's a lie. There is nothing more that the enemy of your soul would love to do than take your voice. Take your confidence. There is nothing that he would love more than to keep you quiet. Because when you stay quiet, things don't change.
But my darlings, your voice is needed. You do have something to contribute. You do have something to say. I realized this during my own professional life. Last year, I stayed relatively quiet in group meetings, always holding my tongue. But this year, I've started sharing my voice more. And I hadn't realized how much impact it had until a co-worker told me that she loves to hear my voice during our work sessions. She looks forward to hearing me speak.
She looks forward to hearing me speak.
So clearly, I have something to say. And when I say it, people listen. People want to listen.
So the next time you are tempted to stay quiet because you think you don't have anything to add to the conversation, to bringing solutions to the team, to adding to the joy at the table, ignore that fear. Speak up. People are longing to hear your voice.
Believe it or not, that's not what I intended to write! Here is what I do have to say:
I have written two new books.
One poetry book. One novel.
The novel is the sequel to Undaunted. The poetry book is all about how my heart stopped beating and started again.
So here is the official announcement:
Coming Soon: Undeterred and In The Midnight Hour: When My Heart Rebeat.
And that is what I have to say.
